ALBEN BAGS GOLD AT SIX DAY BERLIN CYCLING TOURNAMENT
Indian teen cyclist Esow Alben created history by winning
the gold medel in track cycling in the
world level. He winning gold medal in Men’s Keirin event of the Six-Day Berlin
Tournament.Czech Republic Thomas Babek who won a silver in 2017 world championship
came in second while Maximilian Lev of Germany took home the bronze.
Keirin event is a six-Day track cycling race.Each cyclist
competes on every day of the competition.Esow was honoured with the Young Athlete
of the year Award at the Sportstar Aces Award 2020 in Mumbai earlier this month.
Esow Alben comes from
the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, an about 1,400 kilometers away from the Indian
mainland in the Indian Ocean. His father Alban Didus works in the fire
department and was active as a cyclist himself. He is the first Indian to win
medal at 2018 UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships when he
won Silver at Keirin event in Aigle, Switzerland. In same year he also won 3
Golds in Team Sprint, Keirin and 200m Time Trial at Junior Asian Track Cycling
championships in Nilai, Malaysia. In 2019, Esow won 3 Golds in Sprint, Team
Sprint and Keirin event at Junior Asian Track Cycling championships in Jakarta,
Indonesia. The same year Esow alongside his teammates Ronaldo Singh
Laitonjam and Rojit Singh Yanglem won Gold in 2019 UCI
Junior Track Cycling World Championships at Team Sprint event in Frankfurt
(Oder), Germany.
